Erwin Fernandez Obituary, Death – The Doral Police Department and the wider Miami-Dade community are mourning the death of Officer Erwin Fernandez, who was found unresponsive at a residence in southwest Miami-Dade on Wednesday morning.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly after 6:20 a.m. to the area of Southwest 157th Avenue and 160th Street after receiving a report of an unresponsive man. A death investigation was initiated, and the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Bureau took over the case. Officials stated that no foul play is suspected.
Doral Police later confirmed the identity of the officer in a public statement. Records indicate that Officer Fernandez served as a school resource officer at Downtown Doral Charter Elementary, where he worked closely with students, staff, and families.
In a statement released by the department, Doral Police expressed gratitude for the support received from the community and neighboring law enforcement agencies and asked that Officer Fernandez’s family and loved ones be kept in their thoughts and prayers while they grieve privately.
Doral Mayor Christi Fraga also issued a statement offering condolences and recognizing Officer Fernandez’s service to the community.
